We are staying indoors, but today, on April 22, we are still celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day and the 25th anniversary of the GLOBE Program!
What is GLOBE?
The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is a hands-on, science and education network of students, teachers, scientists, and partners who work together to better understand, sustain, and improve Earth’s environment in over 120 countries worldwide. The Program was announced by the U.S. Government on Earth Day in 1994 and launched its worldwide implementation on April 22, 1995. Lithuania joined the Globe program in 2002. Currently about 30 schools actively participate in the Globe program in Lithuania.
For Students, GLOBE provides an opportunity to collect scientific data on their local environment, publish the findings of their research, and collaborate with other GLOBE participants around the world.
For Teachers, GLOBE provides professional training at workshops, curriculum materials and contacts with other teachers, students, and scientists worldwide.
For Scientists and Researchers, GLOBE provides access to the full GLOBE database, possibility to mentor and inspire students, provide leadership for local scientific investigations, and participate in the GLOBE International STEM Network.
Find out how you can participate in the Globe program in appreciation of our communities and our planet Earth here on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheGLOBEProgram/ or website: https://www.globe.gov/
How can Lithuanian schools and teachers get involved with GLOBE?
The Globe program in Lithuania is coordinated by the Globe Country Coordinator Grete Vaicaityte of the Lithuanian Centre of Non-formal Youth Education. The role of the Country Coordinator is to build local and international GLOBE partnerships with schools, students and science centers.
