Alert Message for U.S. Citizens: Protest

The U.S. Embassy informs U.S. citizens that today started at 1600 there is a scheduled protest at the Seimas (Lithuanian parliament) building (53 Gedimino prospektas). According to some reports, more than 9,000 people plan on participating.  Due to the large number of people participating in the event there will be street closures between Gedimino and Gyneju and Gostauto streets between 1500-2100 hours.

Even protests intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence.  You should avoid areas of demonstrations, and exercise caution if in the vicinity of any large gatherings, protests, or demonstrations.
