Ambassador Hall’s Remarks at the Official Announcement of UPS Service Expansion

March 30, 2017

I am very happy to join you today to celebrate the expansion of UPS’s operations in Lithuania.

It’s a sign that UPS continues to show confidence in Lithuania as a valuable market and business partner.

UPS is the kind of American company that makes us proud. UPS signed its partnership agreement in Lithuania in 1991, making it one of the first U.S. companies to enter this market after independence. It started daily flights in 1996, and its representative here was one of the founding members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Lithuania. It is also obvious to me that UPS’s continued expansion in Lithuania is a vote of confidence that Lithuania’s market is growing in importance.

UPS also shows confidence it its people and offers them growth opportunities. Indeed, employees from Lithuania are represented in top management positions in UPS’s European offices. It illustrates the management culture and investment in people that American businesses bring to markets throughout the world.

Of course, much of UPS’s good work in Lithuania is the reflection of Vladas Lašas’ and his team’s hard work and commitment to innovation. I just visited Kaunas earlier this month, where I got to see the new hybrid engines that are being developed for UPS delivery trucks. In fact Kaunas is home to a number of exciting, innovative technology companies doing business with the United States. It’s symbolic that UPS’s growth and expansion is literally bringing those relationships closer together.

I am very happy to be with you today and celebrate that success.

Congratulations to all of you!
