Events: U.S. Embassy Vilnius has received information that there will be multiple protests taking place in Vilnius over the next two weeks.  The municipality confirmed that permission was granted to the Family Movement for gatherings of up to 3,000 people near the Parliament building in the area between A. Goštauto and Geležinis Vilkas streets.  The protests are scheduled for June 20, 21, 22, 23, 27 and 28 from 0900-1900 hours each day with the main protest expected to take place on June 21 from 0900-1800 hours.  The purpose of the demonstrations, as stated by the Family Movement, is to protest the decisions of the ruling parties in Lithuania.  While current indications suggest that these demonstrations will be peaceful, U.S. citizens are reminded that even protests or demonstrations intended to be peaceful can quickly turn confrontational and escalate into violence.
