On April 8, 2016, Robert and Lauren Schaefer had the pleasure of representing the U.S. Embassy and serving on the judges panel at the sixth annual “Kalbos Melodija” singing competition hosted by Kaunas J. Urbsys Catholic School. There were 30 groups from the region that competed in two categories – 1) soloists, duets, trios, and 2) ensembles. The competition was fierce and the performances were inspiring. The Schaefers were really impressed by the students’ courage, talent, and perseverance. The students’ choreography, instrumental accompaniment, and coordinated outfits were incredible, the Schaefers said. The hard work and effort the students put into their performances was very evident. All of the students did an amazing job and it was an honor to be part of the event. The Schaefers would like to congratulate the first place winners: Kauno Milikoniu pagrindinės mokyklos merginu ansamblis in the ensemble category and both Rugilė Baranauskaitė from Kauno Vinco Kudirkos progimnazija and Emilija Radvilavičiūtė from Birštono gimnazija who tied for first place in the soloist category. The U.S. Embassy representatives would also like to thank the director and teachers at Kaunas J. Urbsys Catholic School as well as the other teachers from the area for inviting them to attend this event. The school made the judges feel very welcome and part of the school community. The Embassy duo hopes to be able to attend this event again next year.
