Message for U.S. Citizens: Invitation to U.S.-Lithuania Friendship Picnic on July 19

The U.S. Embassy in Vilnius and the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs invite you to a friendship picnic in celebration of the Sumner Welles Declaration.  The event will be held on Wednesday, July 19 at 5:00 p.m. in Washington Square, Vilnius, Lithuania, and no RSVP is needed.  Bring a blanket and enjoy a free concert from the U.S. Naval Forces Europe Africa band, as well as games and American-style food from food trucks.

The Welles Declaration is a statement issued in 1940 by then Acting Secretary of State Benjamin Sumner Welles.  In this statement, the United States did not recognize the occupation of the Baltic States by the Soviet Union.  This declaration remains proof of the long-lasting friendship between the United States and Lithuania.
